Being honest with oneself begins with cultivating emotional intelligence. That is, we must have self-awareness. We must be in a position to sense our thoughts, feelings, beliefs inculcated from childhood. Writing a daily journal will help to transfer intimate thoughts on paper and provide new perspectives.

Being honest with oneself is essentially obeying the dictates of our conscience or the inner voice that warns us when we go astray. Conscience differs based on value systems. A thief’s conscience does not prevent him from stealing. It’s very important to root all our thoughts and actions on ethical values. When our conscience is aligned to ethics, we can never stray from honesty.

It’s of no use to have value based goals and not doing anything about them.Life is a trial by fire.
